Second-hand find: Pointy earrings

Pointy earrings from the Oxfam charity shop in St. John’s Wood. Price: 6 pounds. I love the bold, studded design as I don’t like my jewellery to be too cutesy & dainty.

I don’t really know what the material is, but the colour is something in-between silver and gold.

The old-fashioned clasp means that you have to fasten the screw until tight enough, which almost stopped me from buying them, as I thought they would be really painful to wear.

But they have turned out to be super comfortable, almost as comfortable as normal earrings – something I’m too afraid to wear at the moment, as I have a very active (and surprisingly strong) baby in the house, who happens to loooove grabbing shiny things.

He even managed to sneak himself into these pictures, while mum was busy taking pictures of herself. Can you spot him in the corner? I think he is pretending to help me with the laundry.

Multi-coloured spheres

I have a thing for spheres-as-jewellery so I recently saved up money to buy this amazing designer bracelet.

I love the avant-garde look of the over-sized coloured spheres – and it’s destined to lighten up an all black outfit.

What are you saying Elliot?

That it’s not a designer bracelet but your new toy, made of wooden balls, that you can move around with your little fingers.

I see.

Yes, I promise I won’t borrow it again…..just yet.

A gift: Snygg leather jewellery

Hello there. I’m back after a little blogging break…and ahhhh it was nice.

Instead of an outfit post (let’s face it, I’m looking more and more like a tent) I’ll show you a lovely birthday gift I got from a friend in Denmark.

This silver ring with a leather flower is made by Danish designer Vicki Zoé Ziska, the woman behind the brand Snygg. She specialises in leather jewellery and I already own two pairs of her earrings in gold and green,  a bit like these.

This ring is the perfect match for my fat pregnancy-swollen fingers (can’t wear my wedding band at the moment) as the silver ring is expandable. And it adds a bit of oomph to an otherwise boring outfit.

Second-hand find: Floating Red Spheres

Røde giga træperler på snor, fundet i en af genbrugsbutikkerne i Chiswick. Halskæden kostede 4 pund og jeg synes, at den er særligt sjov til et sort outfit, da det så nærmest ser ud som om, at kuglerne svæver frit i luften.

English: Necklace made of giant wooden spheres on a soft rope. I paid 4 pounds for it in one of the second-hand shops in Chiswick and like to wear it with an all-black outfit. From the distance the spheres look like they are floating in the air.

Second-hand finds: Animal brooches

Intet kan løfte et ensfarvet og lidt kedeligt outfit som en farverig eller glitrende broche med personlighed. Uglebrochen i træ her købte jeg på et loppemarked i København for mange år siden. Jeg fik den for 1 krone.

Nothing can lift a monochrome and boring outfit like quirky jewellery. I found this old owl brooch made in wood at a flea market in Denmark years ago. I paid 1 krone for it (10 p).

Jeg har et eller andet med tigere, så hapsede hurtigt denne broche, da jeg så den i Trinity Hospice genbrugsbutikken i Chiswick. Pris 3 pund.

I have a thing for tigers, so I quickly grabbed this one when I saw it in the Trinity Hospice charity shop in Chiswick. Price 3 pounds.

Tredje broche er denne heraldiske drage, lavet af London-smykkefirmaet Sardi, som er kendt for deres glitrende kitsch brocher med masser af glitterværk og krystaller. Den kostede 5 pund i Trinity Hospice genbrugsbutikken i Chiswick.

Med mit efternavn in mente (og nu hvor jeg ikke kan overskue at købe en rigtig hund) burde jeg måske også investere i denne nuttede Basset-broche. Du kan se alle Sardis brocher her.

The third brooch is this heraldic dragon, made by the London-based company Sardi. They are known for their quite kitsch brooches, filled with glitter and crystals. I paid 5 pounds for this one in the Trinity Hospice charity shop in Chiswick.

And maybe I should honour my last name with this cute Basset brooch. You can take a look all Sardi’s brooches and other jewellery here.

Galibardy – affordable bling with a twist

For et stykke tid siden blev mine øjne lokket til af en smykkestand lige ved indgangen (i enden med madboderne) til det dejlige indendørs søndagsmarked i Østlondon, Sunday UpMarket.

Bag standen stod ejeren af smykkemærket Galibardy, og jeg endte med at gå derfra med Bambi her til omkring 21 pund. Firmaet har specialiseret sig i spøjse halskæder, brocher og ringe med alt fra dødningehoveder til pantere, en kanin i en hat, bittesmå grønne æbler og bier.

Priserne er lave, men de fleste smykker er lavet af messing og de ser meget dyrere ud, end de er. Galibardy har haft en stand på markedet, hver gang jeg har været forbi, men du kan også shoppe online på www.galibardy.co.uk.

English: A while back I was visiting the lovely Sunday UpMarket in East London when my eyes were drawn to a stall selling jewellery with a quirky twist. Behind the stall was the owner of the company Galibardy, who has  specialised  in affordable, modern jewellery with humour and a story to tell.

I ended up buying the Bambi necklace in brass, price: 21 pounds.

Second-hand find: ? ? by Moschino

Smuttede en tur forbi St. Johns Wood i går for at tage billeder til min genbrugsguide. Jeg kunne altså ikke stå for disse vintage Moschino clips-ørenringe med store hvide spørgsmålstegn. 80/90’er kitsch blandet med et eksistentielt budskab, Så bliver det ikke bedre. For hvad er egentlig meningen med det hele?? Det bør man stoppe op og tænke over en gang imellem.

Pris 15 pund. Fundet hos den udmærkede Oxfam, 61 St. Johns Wood High Street.

English: I went for a quick walk in the rain yesterday to St. Johns Wood to snap some pictures for my upcoming second-hand guide. I couldn’t resist these vintage Moschino clip earrings with white question marks. It’s 80s/90s kitsch with a message. Because what is the meaning of it all?? Not a bad question to ponder, once in a while.

Tokyo shopping – vintage Chanel earrings

Faldt over de her fine, forgyldte Chanel-ørenringe i en lille kommissions-genbrugsbutik (og dem er der mange af, skulle jeg hilse og sige, for japanerne skyer gamle ting og kollektioner, og sælger løs for at få råd til det sidste nye) på en lille gade i det forstadskvarter i det nordlige Tokyo, hvor vi boede.

Jeg er ellers ikke til clipsørenringe, men de her sidder som en drøm. Via stemplet bagpå (P 96) kan jeg se at de er fra forårskollektionen 96. Det bliver ikke mere 90’er og logo-agtigt, så de skal vist akkompagneres af et enkelt,  sort outfit og et minimum af anden tingeltangel. Pris ca. 500 kroner.

English: I spotted these Chanel earrings in a little consignment shop (and there are a whole lot of those all over Japan, as a lot of Japanese wouldn’t be caught dead wearing last year’s collections) in the suburbian area in northern Tokyo, where we stayed most of the time.

I normally don’t like clip-on earrings, but these are so comfortable. The stamp on the back says P 96, meaning they are from the spring (Printemps) collection of ’96. They scream LOGO, LOGO, LOGO so I think I’ll wear them with an understated, monochrome outfit. Price: around 57 pounds.

The hare from Wonderland

Nålen her har de smukkeste små detaljer, der fik mit blik til at suge sig fast på den, som den sad der på ginen i genbrugsbutikken blandt et væld af andre større og mere farvestrålende brocher. Nærmere inspektion viste en fin lille signatur på bagsiden og mærket “Ballou” på låsen. Ballou er åbenbart et 130 år gammelt amerikansk  firma, kendt for deres brocher og nåle.

Den pynter på jakkereverset, og så minder den mig om The March Hare fra Alice i Eventyrland, som jeg glæder mig til at genlæse + se Tim Burtons forhåbentlig dystre og fabulerende nyfortolkning af.

In English: I spotted this lovely little pin at the charity shop in Chiswick. The beautiful details caught my eye and when I turned it over I saw a signature and the name “Ballou” inscribed on the lock. Apparently Ballou is a 130 year old american company that specialises in pins and brooches.

It reminds me of The March Hare from Alice in Wonderland. I can’t wait to see Tim Burton’s interpretation of it (with Johnny Depp, yay!).
