The sensible tan leather sandals

I haven’t worn high heels since the beginning of the pregnancy. It’s not comfortable, definitely not healthy and it just feels wrong to totter around in stilettos .

So I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of very simple leather sandals in a decent quality, that can replace my beloved jelly shoes,  and live on my feet for the rest of the summer.

And yesterday I found the right pair.

These Silas sandals from Office are both cheap and comfy. And they have that perfect durable rubber sole which guarantees a long shoe life and steady feet, even on the most slippery of surfaces.

They cost £58 and come in navy blue too. Buy them here.

New from H&M: animal print harem/jodphur/peg trousers

I bought these in H&M yesterday. They cost 20 pounds and are 100% viscose. Basically I just bought them to have something comfy to lounge around in at home, but I might wear them out with a pair of wedges and maybe a black cropped jacket.

They come in black as well, but I of course had to get the animal printesque version. I’m not normally a fan of patterns this sharp and bright, but needed something to lighten up these horribly dark and rainy days.

Muji – minimalist essentials you didn’t even know you needed

So, the third part of my high-street shopping trilogy (aka the day I went to Oxford street to buy winter boots and browse the stock at H&M) ended with a big shopping bang in Japanese chain Muji. They’re know for stocking well-produced and tasteful minimalist things with a quirky look.

Things you didn’t even know you wanted, like patchwork piglets, red acrylic reindeer and solar system magnets – or what about London in a box? Brilliant and perfect for presents.

What they also do really well is plastic storage units, picture frames, travel kits etc. I bought one of their refillable hand soap dispensers (£ 3.95) and some mint & cucumber soap (£ 3.50).

I also bought a mirror – great for travels and checking your hairdo in the bathroom (£ 7.50). And an acrylic picture frame (£ 6.95).

The frame was what I actually went in for. One of our friends is a talented photographer and he’d snapped a black and white photo of Sam and I on a boat cruise. It’s 15 by 15 cm and I couldn’t find a frame with those dimensions anywhere. So this clear acrylic frame is perfect, easy to assemble plus they  come in many different sizes.

Take a look a Muji’s website (they post orders to delivery locations within mainland Great Britain, the EU and mainland United States and Canada.)

New from H&M: nude, black and lace

When I was on my highstreet hunt for winter boots I also quickly checked out the stock in my favourite H&M at Regent Street. I try to avoid it as much as I can as there’s a bit too much buy-and-throw-away-in-a-few-months tackiness about their clothes.

But H&M is amazing if you’re after cheap wardrobe basics  with a modern and edgy twist – especially if you stick to natural materials like cotton and viscose.

I ended up with this basic cotton sweater/top, I love the slouchy shape and the nude colour. Comes in MANY other colours. £ 7.99

Up second is this long black skirt in 100% soft viscose. It’s soooo comfy, it’s like the tracksuit of skirts. Perfect for lazy weekends at home but also looks pretty classy with a pair of wedge boots. I haven’t washed it yet, so don’t know how well it holds up (cheapo viscose is risky business). £ 12.99.

And here they are, hand in hand:

H&M do some pretty great tights and leggings as well. Bought this pair of lace leggings. They are soft and stretchy and have a nice wide waistband. £ 9.99.

My black winter wedges: Carvela Slip boots

After a month of researching and trying on and pondering I finally decided upon  what was going to be MY pair of black winter wedges for everyday use. These Carvela Slip wedges cost 130 pound, but I bought them in TopShop’s shoe department and got 10% off as I somehow still have a valid student card.

I actually headed for Oxford Street having finally decided to buy the practical Clark’s Yarra Desert boots but turns out they’re completely sold out. So I settled for these instead, they’re a bit less practical but soooo comfortable and no too high. Come in a grey suede version as well.

Warm, comfy and inexpensive: Uniqlo’s HeatTech range & cashmere sweaters

Uniqlo Camisole - 9.99 pounds

I’m a big fan of casual Japanese highstreet brand Uniqlo’s HeatTech range. They sell everything from camisoles to leggings and long-sleeved shirts made from this special material that keeps you warm. Apparently the magic material also absorbs body moisture (aka sweat) and transforms it into heat. Or something like that.

Bottom line is: the fabric is comfy and soft like a baby’s bottom and doesn’t feel synthetic at all.  Plus  you can wash it like a 1000 times without it turning grey and boring (as cotton does).

Uniqlo sleeveles top - 9.99 pounds

Uniqlo scoop neck top – 12.99 pounds

They also do a range of very cheap cashmere/wool sweaters for men (and women) in many different colours. At 24.99 you’re not going to cry if: a) you find out that a hungry moth has taken a big bite of it or b) you accidentally wash it on 60 degrees. Not that any of those things have ever happened to me, no no of course not 😉

More H&M bling

English: Speaking of H&M jewellery, look what my friend just bought for around 15 pounds. The necklace is made of metal bits and “leather” cords. I was convinced it was a piece of expensive designer bling. Well done H&M.

Wishlist: One shoulder maxi dress from Topshop

Køb den her.

English: I was really tempted by this stylish one shoulder maxi dress when I spotted it in a very busy Topshop yesterday. It would be perfect with the elastic band wedges from Dune and a bit of bling. Comes in the red/brown colour “Brick” as well and costs 28 pounds. Buy it here.

Wishlist: Dune elastic strap sandal

English: I still haven’t found the perfect pair of flat, practical summer sandals. They’re all so freaking boring. What I have found while quickly browsing the highstreet stores are around 10 different pair of lovely wedges: from boots to sandals. I spotted these in the window at Dune yesterday and I just love them. Simple and classy and the price is also pretty good: 65 pounds. They come in dark blue and khaki too.

You could call wedges practical and use them everyday, couldn’t you? Exactly, that’s what I thought! 🙂 I haven’t tried them on yet, so I don’t know how comfortable they are. Guess I’m heading for Dune again….

Suitcase favourite: H&M long beige dress

Long dresses and skirts are slowly but surely making their way to the catwalk and the highstreet, and so is beige. So when I was out shopping for a new summer dress for our trip I decided to get this one.

Foto: Mette Bassett

It’s from H&M, cost 30 pound and has quickly become a suitcase favourite. I’ve worn it in Bangkok on not too warm and humid evenings and at the beach at Koh Lanta.

And I’m going to wear it in much colder Japan with a short jacket. It’s made from 100% viscose and is sooo comfortable.
